This site notes that during Youtube's rapid growth, they decided to use a CDN. Another interesting point was that since the histogram of video views has such a long tail, ie there are many many videos with less than 100 views, caching video content was fairly infeasible.

How often is CDN data updated? Are all CDNs mirrored or do they cache differently according to the geography and user proximity?

I think edge location caches in CDN also require enviction policy to decide what data is in the cache. Is the same enviction policy applied into all the edge location caches?
