What is a good example of a channel? In the picture above, it seems to say that a connection between two switches/routers is a link, but the definition of a channel is a connection between switches/routers.

@mitraraman The difference between a link and a channel is that a link is physical whereas a channel is logical. For example, lets say that there are 2 switches/routers (1,2,3) in the network where there are links between the pairs (1,2) and (2,3). One can say that there's a logical connection (channel) from 1 to 3 even though they're not directly connected.

Based on the context of the following slides where contention of switches are discussed, it seems the switches are only allowed to select one input and direct it to one output. Why can't we make the switches handling multiple inputs/outputs at the same time? Or is it just a cost/performance balance issue?
