This slide explains the importance of dedicating the right amount of resources(chip area in this case) for each component of the heterogeneous processor. When provisioning resources, it is important to keep in mind the often non-linear way in which more resources for say a fixed function ASIC will affect the performance of the GPU cores since the performance of the GPU cores depends on the performance of the ASIC


When creating an ASIC, how do designers test whether or not they have the right size for each component? Do they just overprovision and give up, or do they try to find a better allotment?
