Could these accelerators (or coprocessors) be considered ASICs? It is specialized hardware, but perhaps devices like the Xeon Phi are still considered too general in their operation scope to be considered a true ASIC.

@scedarbaum I don't think the Xeon Phi's could qualify as an ASIC as their is no specialized hardware here. It is like a GPU in that it is a lot of "simple" cores but their is no logic to perform a specific task more efficiently.
