I asked a question at the beginning of the semester about why Intel continues to ship iGPUs with its processors when there are much better alternatives out there. At that time, I hadn't been considering power usage, which is clearly a factor in mobile devices which often don't have beefy gpus attached.

Yes, and also the fact that you don't need a beefy GPU to render simpler images on a display. Along-with the fact that it's far more energy efficient(iGPU).

Fact: NVIDIA GPU based laptops ship with the functionality of switching between iGPU and Dedicated GPU on-the-fly based on work load, to provide better battery life.
