The crossbars shown in the chips above ("CCX" on the left, "Cross Bar" on the right) illustrate one of their biggest disadvantages: they don't scale well. In both chips, the amount of die space taken up by the crossbar is on the order of an entire processing core. One of the main advantages of this construction (as mentioned on the previous slide) is low latency; every node is directly connected to every other node.
