This is deadlock because neither animal is making any progress. The frog is holding the other animal's throat so it can't eat the the frog. The frog cannot really do anything because it refuses to let go of the animal's throat and therefore, can't move either.

I think the first example can also be interpreted as starvation, as I agree with iamk_d__g that the frog is going to be the winner here. Assuming the frog can still breathe (through its skin), the resource in contention here is air. However, the frog is preventing the stork from getting any air by blocking its breathing passages. In this case the frog will eventually let go or the stork will suffocate, and the starvation will end. Still seems like a bit of a stretch -- maybe we're looking into this a bit too much =D.
