@lament That's absolutely fine, so long as you can demonstrate that there is significant work involved. A common example is to parallelize your ray-tracer from graphics for real-time rendering.

A reminder about obtaining hardware for the final project if you need it: Either obtain it yourself, email Kayvon and he might be able to help you, or in the past students have written a SURG proposal and gotten a grant to fund buying some Raspberry Pis or other hardware.
